Euronymous was a Norwegian guitarist. He was the co-founder of the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem. He was also founder, and owner, of the extreme metal record label Deathlike Silence Productions and record shop Helvete. He was the founder of, and central figure in, the early Norwegian black metal scene, until his murder by fellow musician Varg Vikernes in August 1993. Euronymous was the son of Helge Aarseth and Inger Olga Breen.

Euronymous’ paternal grandfather was Halvard Ingolf Aarseth (the son of Halvor Halvorsen Aarseth and Ingeborg Eriksdatter Flovik). Halvard was born in Harøy, Sandøy, Møre og Romsdal, Norway. Halvor was the son of Halvor Olsen Aarset and Synnøve Olsdatter Holm. Ingeborg was the daughter of Erik Halvorsen Flovik and Berit Ingine Olsdatter Bakken.

Euronymous’ paternal grandmother was Gudrun Angvik (the daughter of Martinus Knudsen Angvik and Marit Larsdatter Brakstad). Martinus was the son of Knud Andersen Angvik and Marit Johnsdatter Knudsen. Euronymous’ great-grandmother Marit was the daughter of Lars Olsen Brakstad and Mari Larsdatter Gjengset.
